Dutasteride 0.5 mg sold under the name Dutaheal is an oral tablet used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, also known as enlarged prostate) and hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) in men. It is either used alone or in combination with tamsulosin for the treatment of enlarged prostate. It improves urination difficulty by shrinking the size of the prostate. It also decreases the chances of having prostate gland surgery. It belongs to the class of drugs known as 5-alpha reductase inhibitors that help prevent the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is meant to be taken with the help of a doctor’s prescription, usually once a day with or without food. It can take anywhere around 3 to 6 months to experience the complete benefits of this medicine.
